I almost want to go back and check myself but that also sounds like a bad idea. But that's kind of awesome. [Yukiko killing monsters is a thing that makes sense.] So I am guessing they were the things guarding the mayor and everybody else so once they were killed you could save them. That's pretty...messed up, actually. Like someone purposefully lured people down there.

It is. I don't know if we ever figured out who was behind it, either.

[If they did, Yukiko missed it and so did the mun.]

That's true...but we haven't been six inches tall again. and this time it was all volunteers and not just people falling into holes in the ocean.

Have I ever mentioned I am so glad I missed being shrunken down that far? Or the ocean sucking me up? That's what makes this weird, why is it volunteer basis now?

[Their pies arrive.] It almost feels like a trap but at the same time...not.

[pies arriving makes Yukiko go right for hers.]

A trap? Are you suspicious of Retrospec?

Yes and no? [He moves for the meat pie first.] I don't think they are doing most of these things with our memories and stuff on purpose, but I also am not entirely sure where they stand on stuff. Is that bad?

No, it's not. I don't think they mean us any harm, but I also just am going on a hunch.

[She's not really a retrospec stan.]

It sounds like they don't have as much control over their own situation as some think they do.

I know some people are really mad about them and that part does and doesn't make sense. But if we're going to be working with them now maybe it won't be so bad. [A huff.] I can't say I am looking forward to the possibility of disappearing again for another month, but the forest wasn't the worst place for a while.

[Breaking open that pie crust with a fork, Yukiko starts stirring the inside.]

And I don't disagree. I haven't actually been pulled out at all though, both times it happened. I'm kind of glad for that, honestly. Last month would've been hard to split up with Eleanor during.

Yeah I would not recommend it? Dave and I were talking all the time and it was still kind of terrible to be separated all around. Especially since their group had a lot of weird shit going on.

[While one hand is working to cut up his pie, he's using the other to grab his phone to pull up some photos.] We had a bunch of satyrs and forest monsters but overall the location wasn't bad.

Yeah, we did get stuck together for Valentine's though. Like, actually stuck.

[That had been no fun.]

It went away after Valentine's Day?

I mean I've heard of the red string thing but that sounds a little ridiculous even for them. AT least it went away...was it just you guys? Did other people get stuck, too?

Oh, yes, it was definitely other people. A lot of other people.

[She wasn't totally sure just how many, but she heard it happened a lot.]

I wish it was easier to tell what brand of nonsense they are going to make us deal with. [A shake of the head.] That sounds like a pain though, sorry guys. At least you were stuck together and not with total strangers! [...some...bright side.]

Weirdly, it kind of feels like they're leaving us alone this month.

It is what it is. [Annoying but not world shattering.]

But you are right. It does feel like we're being left alone. Kinda nice.

Any bets on how long that'll last? [It is nice. He can just hang out with a good friend, eat pie, and not worry about stupid bullshit happening to him.] My money's on at least another month, optimistically.

[Because John Egbert has also come to realize that in the old universe, all sorts of stupid shit happens on or around his birthday.]

[Yukiko laughs softly. That's totally a ridiculous thought. Two whole quiet months?!]

It's usually every other month that something wild happens. Sometimes more, but...that's been my experience.

I've kind of noticed that, too. November and December weren't too bad, but then January and February were a little much. It's like there's a pattern that's being followed by the storms or whatever the fuck is causing all of this. I think it's storms? I don't know, sometimes it is hard to tell if those updates every month are serious or not.

Storms seem reasonable. Though there are also just glitches, like where taste vanished for a few weeks. AT least. they said that was a glitch.

Yeah. It's a lot easier to belief them than try to argue with their logic I think, so it's fine. Now that we know this is going to keep happening though I kind of want to be able to do something about it. Especially since summer is really close.

I genuinely do hope that works out for the best, then. It would be a shame to have that friendship damaged if something goes wrong in the romance.
Not that I have any real reason to think that it might.
Obviously, you know your situation better than I do.

I think I'm just something of a pessimist.

Yeah. I do too. With class letting out, I plan on stepping up my training routines and maybe visiting some of those other places.
