[ On the morning of the 13th, one day before Valentine's Day, a sudden text message appears from a Souji Seta. Perhaps you've talked to him before. Perhaps you haven't. Perhaps you're wondering why the hell you are receiving a text at six in the morning but look, let's not sweat the small details. Pay attention to the larger ones, like the contents of this very important message: ]
Hello.
Through the tides of fate, you have been chosen to participate in this year's Valentine's Day event: Blind Dating. It is believed that no one should be alone for such an important day and as such, you have been paired up with another lonely soul.
Your match is with Honoka Kousaka. Please contact them to plan out your date for tomorrow.
However, if you and your partner do not know what to do, there will be a booth in Recollé Square for the sole purpose of assisting unsure or confused participants of the event. There will be date suggestions, booklets of pick-up lines, and refreshments.
[To make things even worse for Yosuke, Yukiko had spent her evening preparing food for a party with Minako. She hadn't missed the whole blind date idea of the twins, but she certainly hadn't signed up, planning instead to spend it with her friend.
[It's February 14th! Early enough before the blind dates have started, Anya was busy.
When Yukiko arrives at class, she'll find her gift already sitting at her desk. She'll find a little pouch filled with heart-shaped macarons, about 6 or 7. There's a neat little card written in Anya's neat and short hand-writing:]
Happy Valentine's Day! Please know that I adore you too.
- Anya ♡
[The macarons have their own little messages instead of the classic Sweetheart Conversations, customized based on whoever Anya's giving them to. This batch reads:]
[ A day after Yukiko bravely saves the dumb Souji and Honoka duo, Yukiko will find a very tiny fruit basket on her desk. It literally only holds about an apple, a pear, and an orange, but it's still kind of nice?? Attached to the basket's handle is a little note: ]
Thank you for the daring rescue ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ
[ And that's all it says, without a name or anything at all, but it shouldn't be too hard to figure out who it's probably from. ]
[It is pretty easy. And the very next afternoon, Souji will find a basket on his desk. It's full of cat food, a few cat toys, and a box of snacks that Yukiko's seen Souji himself eating.]
Yukiko! Not sure how but I got wrapped into some kind of board game night with Jade. It was a bit of a whirlwind. Friday the 21st want to come? Please say yes.
[ It's...it's nice being full-sized again. Like, really nice. SUPER nice. Yosuke always wished he was a little bit taller, but he's never been so happy to be regular Yosuke-height before. School is also infinitely more bearable, though it's driving him partially crazy that some of the teachers haven't noticed or even cared about the change. What is this world coming to...
Well, it's Friday. Which means weekend! So that puts Yosuke in a higher mood than he might be otherwise. As he's walking towards the bike rack, he spots a familiar head of long black hair. ]
Hey! [ He waves at Yukiko, forgoing his bike for the moment as he trots over to her. ] Looks like everyone's back to normal.
[Being able to get back in the van, take Al out for walks, and just generally not deal with the fact that she was five inches tall and killed a dragonfly with a glowing woman is nice too. Yukiko's never been so ecstatic to be able to sit in her seat normally.
And, weirdly? To hear that voice. Turning, she smiles over her shoulder and regards him.]
[ Yuuko just calls her out of the blue one fine morning, as Yuuko does. ]
Yoohoo, Yukiko! You thought I disappeared from the face of the earth and assumed I was on hiatus, but it's not a hiatus if I don't officially announce it, is it? [ Is she breaking the fourth wall? Who knows... ] Anyway, are you free? Let's play a game!
This is Mohammed Hefaz, one of the people on Retrospc. Naoto told me you could help me out with something. I recently remembered having some sort of superpower and she told me to check with you.
I remember being able to create fire with my mind, but I think the explanation is more complicated than that.
[It's a little after one when Eleanor turns up on Yukiko's doorstep and rings the bell. She's dressed quite nicely, grey (IT USED TO BE BLUE) blouse, black skirt and flats, her big purse hanging over her shoulder. She has sunglasses on, and can't quite stand still, shifting her weight from foot to foot as she waits for Yukiko to answer.]
[This was all odd for two reason. One, Eleanor didn't call first, and she always called first, and two, she was supposed to be at her internship right then.]
[It is odd, odd enough for Yukiko to blink at least once when she opens the door. Something is Wrong, with the capital W because that internship is really, really important to El.
She doesn't say a word, she just grabs her key from by the doorframe and steps outside, ready to go.]
[Mohammed knows his way around birds. He looks after four bundles of fluff. He controls a birdman on fire. He loves any animal with wings and a beak. He's petting the Chocobo at the corral, and it likes him back. He must have a natural touch.
That, and a warm touch. The bird loves his ability to warm up his skin for an excellent hug.]
How are you doing, Yukiko? [He's ready to race. But petting some more is fine.]
[Yukiko is also pretty fond of birds, given that her soul is shaped like a winged metal bird woman, but Chocobos are a special treat. Since they arrived here in Recolle, she's found herself drawn to the odd creatures and often winds up at the corral.
Slipping inside the pen, she walks over to her favorite one of the birds and holds up a hand. It nuzzles her palm with a beak rather affectionately. It's not a natural affinity, but it's certainly a friendship of a sort.]
