[ Yuuko just calls her out of the blue one fine morning, as Yuuko does. ]

Yoohoo, Yukiko! You thought I disappeared from the face of the earth and assumed I was on hiatus, but it's not a hiatus if I don't officially announce it, is it? [ Is she breaking the fourth wall? Who knows... ] Anyway, are you free? Let's play a game!

[This is a little out of the blue, but Yukiko picks up.]

I...thought you were just busy, Yuuko. [You know, as you do.]

But I'm free, yes. What sort of game?

Fuck, marry, kill. [why]

What...why?

None...of them? I don't know any of them, Yuuko.

[Seriously those are your pals, not hers.]

Then how about Ryoji, Ryoji and Ryoji? I don't know where he is, though.

Maybe I should kill him.

I...barely know him. So none of those options.

But what's gotten into you?

[ Oh no. Yukiko thinks she's weird. But being weird can't really be helped when you're panicking. ]

... Nothing. I'm worried, and I just... [ wanted someone to talk to. ]

Sorry. I shouldn't be bothering you.

Yuuko. It's not a bother, I just don't understand what's wrong.

[Panicking or not, weird or not, Yukiko is confused. But not unkind.]

Are you worried about Ryoji? Because I saw him not too long ago.

[ She'd explain, but where to start? Her reactions might give it away. ]

You did? Where? When? Did you talk to him? He hasn't called for days...

Yuuko, please calm down.

[Cool, rational, and firm.]

When was the last time you saw him? So I'll know what's going on. And where are you, right now?

[ Deep breaths. Getting there, anyway. ]

Last Tuesday. [ So, the 16th. ] I'm at the park... Why?

[Hmm.]

I can drive over to you. Sounds like you need company.

[She's already getting herself together.]

I don't really know where he is now though. I met him, but that was...Wednesday?

[ She does. Things were a bit awkward with Nobu after the whole "oops I kept my boyfriend a secret from you for months because I thought you would kill him" thing. She wants to talk to her soon... She's just not sure which of them should make the first move. ]

I'd love that. [ Yukiko can't see it, but Yuuko tries to smile. ] I hope he's still here...

[ He hasn't disappeared as long as he did last time, but between his reluctance to confide in her and his tendency to come and go, that doesn't make her worry any less. ]

[Well there's the sound of a car starting up, and a faint bark in the background. Al Capug is on the case.

Starting down the road, phone pressed to her ear, Yukiko tries to sound reassuring.]

He said he was staying in the city. He just had something to figure out. He...said that if we talked, to tell you he'll be back soon.

[This is all true enough, though she's lying about not knowing anything. she does know, but it's not her place to reveal his secret.]

[ "When is soon?" is what she wants to ask, but she has a feeling even Yukiko doesn't know. ]

Well, it's not the first time it's happened. Ryoji's used to dealing with things alone. That's how he's always been.

[She has no clue, and wishes she did.]

I don't have your patience. I couldn't deal with a significant other that disappeared on me.

[ She chuckles. ] I don't think I'm patient. I'm just used to it.

[ Her mother's death. Nobu's disappearance. The fear of holding someone tightly—or not tight enough—before what Yuuko knows to be the inevitable.

But, Nobu came back. Ryoji came back, too. ]

Besides, I can always find another boyfriend. There's only one Ryoji.

[ When she opens her mouth to continue, an ache begins in her head. Then, her heart. A lump forms in her throat. ]

... Sorry. I'll talk to you when you get here. Take care, okay?

[Yukiko doesn't respond to that, she just drives into the twilight, pulling into the park and hopping out with Al Capug on a leash. The dog yaps happily, immediately darting towards the grass and Yuuko, fast enough that his trilby nearly flies off. Good thing it has a strap.]

H-Hey! Calm down, Al!

[Nope. Here he comes. Fast enough to slip the leash and bolt up to Yuuko, puggy eyes bright and tail wagging.

Someone's happy to see you.]

[ If there's anything that can bring a smile to Yuuko's face, it's a cute animal. Al runs and she crouches to welcome him with bright eyes and open arms. Yuuko and dogs don't get along but as with love and hate, there are always exceptions to the rule. ]

Aww, it's Al! Here, boy!

[ She giggles and scoops him up and he kisses her cheek, or something like it. It's probably the happiest Yuuko's been in days. ]

Hey, Yukiko! I didn't think you'd bring him...

[Trotting up, Yukiko laughs lightly, amused by Al's antics already. He really was the best dog you could ask for, honestly. He just had a lot of love, nevermind the gangster attitude and the hat. Al Capug may burn your doghouse down for the insurance money, but he'd slobber all over you happily.]

Why wouldn't I? You sounded like you could use some pug in your life.

[Can't we all?]

He definitely likes you, too.

[ She definitely wants a pet. Too bad her dad's allergic... ]

You know, that's pretty rare. Only Al and Souji and the chocobos are super nice to me. Oh, Souji is my best friend's dog. She's an Akita.

[ Akita Souji, get it? It's a nerdy name. Please get it for Nobu's sake. ]

Dogs have their charm. [ Which means she prefers cats. ] I guess that's why Ryoji likes them, too.

[ He likes all animals but she'll never let him live that one argument down. ]

[Oh, that's awful. Please don't Nobu. :(]

Dogs do, they're really the best, far less bitchy than cats. Don't tell the twins I said any of that though because I'm pretty sure they'd turn their cats loose in my room.

Ahahaha! Well, I'll keep your secret if you keep mine.

[ Why does she forgive Yukiko for the cat comment but not Ryoji... It's because Yukiko is a sweet and beautiful person and friend, that's why!! ]

That's all people have been doing these days, anyway.

[ Ryoji's disappearance, Nobu's feelings. In a time when her closest friends seem so distant from her, she can't help but feel alone. ]
