[Eleanor pulled on it a few times once they were at 'max' distance, frowning at the string because really. really. Finally she just let out a long, resigned sigh.]
Well that's just bloody lovely.
[She said it mostly to herself, and then forced a smile as she looked at Yukiko.]
Thanks. Especially if we're stuck together, I really need a shower. You got your phone on you?
[Because Eleanor couldn't imagine just sitting outside the bathroom with nothing to do.]
[She gave her a squeeze on the shoulder before disappearing into the bathroom again to shower. The string would start to move a bit as her arm did, up when she tried to get her shirt off (which was...a problem) down as she showered, up and down and up and down...poor Yukiko. There was also a bit of a weight on the string that hadn't been there.
[It was maybe ten minutes before the door reopened, El wrapped in a towel, with her shirt hanging from the string between them.]
Done! And, ah...small problem.
[She shook the string and made the shirt bounce.]
We have to see if we can cut this when we're close together. Just so we can get dressed.
[Eleanor hesitated, because she wanted to try and cut it, but she knew Yukiko was probably right. Fighting against Retrospec's odd things never seemed to do more than bring extra frustration on top of whatever was going on.]
Yeah, you're right. Hopefully it's not freezing out.
[After a second she smiled.]
Besides, I suppose I can think of worse things than being stuck with you on valentine's day.
[She teased, stepping the rest of the way out of the bathroom.]
[As she did so, perhaps as a reward for their willingness to accept what was going on, her shirt suddenly dropped through the string and onto the ground like it wasn't there.]
[Eleanor laughed to herself as she got removed the towel and got dressed, though there was a little delay as she watched her shirt pass through the strange red string over and over. It was really rather amazing. Also impossible, but she was starting to use that word less, at least.]
Hey, don't move, I want to try something.
[This was said in her 'Eleanor suddenly had an idea and is excited' voice, as she came walking around the chair, in jeans and a plain white bra, tugging a t-shirt over her head as she talked.]
So the string goes through stuff right? Or some stuff. But not our wrists, obviously.
[Her voice was muffled by the shirt before she got it all the way over her head, and then she did, and let out a brief huff of breath of breath before shaking her damp hair out. Still pretty much talking the whole while.]
But what about other parts of us? Don't move, okay?
[Grinning as she continued her circle around Yukiko, moving to about three feet away and holding her wrist out, to see if the string would wrap around the other girl, or go through her...]
[Well, Yukiko sits tight for sure, waiting to see what Eleanor will return with. and once she does return? Yukiko stands up and looks at Eleanor with a puzzled expression. Just what is she doing?]
Um. Okay...
[Well, the string doesn't pass through her. Not completely. It sort of tugs at her, and does wrap around, but only a bit before beginning to tighten some.
Shaking her head, Yukiko spins the opposite direction, unwinding it.]
Sorry, I should have had you try it on me if I wanted to experiment, huh? [She looked at her wrist again for a moment.]
Alright. So if this is like some of the other nonsense retrospec has done, it's probably only for a day or two. So we just have to push through it till it's over.
[A beat.]
And come up with some kind of schedule for everything. I guess maybe skip one class each so we don't both miss all our classes today? I hope you don't mind sitting in the back of my engineering lab, it can get a little noisy...
[Yukiko shrugged, just kind of ambivalent about being experimented on.]
I actually only have one class today, but it's one I can't miss. I hope you don't mind sitting in on a lecture. It's sociology 101, but the professor is really strict on attendance.
I think we're going over social supply and demand.
[Eleanor echoed this as if she were trying to taste it.]
I can't say that sounds...exciting...but it could be a lot worse. I definitely can't miss my lab, but I can skip my English class.
[Hm.]
Did you have anything else planned for today?
[Yes, she's teasing, since she's still not entirely sure what being kicked out of the apartment last night as about, but assumed it was related to something Yukiko was planning today.]
Yes. Dinner. I've handmade pizza dough and I was going to bake it after class. Since your English class is done after I get finished, I wanted to surprise you. But there's no point in that now.
[Teasing or not, it's a serious answer, and Yukiko's smile is completely sincere.]

[She settles in patiently to wait just outside the door, holding up her phone so Eleanor can see.]
I'll be fine. You do what you need to do.
[Thank you for the concern though, gf.]

When Eleanor came back out, Yukiko blinked. Mainly because how did Eleanor even get out of her clothes if that was a problem.
Oh. Wait.]
...We'll have to finagle this somehow. But you may have to stick to a tanktop or something for today.
[Awkward.]
no subject
Yeah, you're right. Hopefully it's not freezing out.

Huh.
no subject
Better hurry before the red string of annoyances changes it's mind.
[She doesn't mind being stuck, not really, but damn this is going to be annoying.]
no subject
[She leaned down to scoop up the shirt, then moved along with her to her bedroom, hesitating.]
My closet is too far from the door. Here, come over here.
[She grabbed her desk chair and plunked it down facing away from the closet.]
Sit. And no peaking!
[She laughed as she said that last part.]
no subject
Right. Just let me know when you're decent.
[Or dressed. She's never decent, she's always trouble.]
no subject

...Let's not. That felt kind of weird.

no subject
Well, I'm sorry the surprise was ruined, but.
[She moved to slide past her, pausing only long enough to give her a kiss on the cheek.]
That sounds like more fun anyway.
[And then she started packing up her backpack.]
no subject
It does sound like fun. We haven't baked together in a while.
no subject
[Eleanor didn't seem to mind at all though, swinging her bag over her shoulder.]
What do you need to do before we leave?
no subject
[So she'll start towards the kitchen, ready to go.]
no subject
So where's your class anyway? I feel like I should know this.
[A little laugh.]
no subject
It's at McMayer Hall, right in the center of the liberal arts square. No big deal.
[Spinning, she heads off, setting an easy pace so Eleanor can hold her hand. That way they can avoid thinking about the string at least.
no subject
Yeah, I know. But what if you were...mm...kidnapped by terrorists attempting to...free the library?
[There weren't a lot of hard targets in the liberal arts square, were there...]
And I wouldn't have known where to go to rescue you! See? Complete disaster.
[She even managed to keep a straight face as she said all that, somehow.
